Sec 1 History:

The question: Describe the impact of the Great Depression on Singapore in the 1930s. (7 marks)

You need two impacts, one on the economy and one on people's lives, each written as a full P.E. paragraph: state a clear point, then tell the story.

Impact 1: The economy. Singapore depended heavily on overseas trade, especially tin and rubber. When world demand fell, prices dropped sharply. Many companies suffered losses, closed down or went bankrupt.

Impact 2: The people. This caused widespread unemployment and hardship. Workers lost jobs or had wages cut. Some depended on relatives and friends, while many migrants had to return to their homelands.
